In the Freedom triad, reconciliation (3), activated through receptivity (2), brings forward possibilities inaccessible before (1).
Via this triad, there are moments of Freedom in which possibilities happen that otherwise could not. What was unavailable before is suddenly at hand.
In JGB’s words, “Freedom does not arise from the existing world but enters our world from a region of impossibilities by which all existence is secretly pervaded. We can reason further that freedom for an entity is possible only when it is in a state of pure receptivity. When in a state of emptiness, the self is uncommitted and can choose to submit itself to the action of freedom.”
Freedom in world 96 becomes identification.
“Identification is false freedom, the illusion of freedom, where we feel free because we are doing what we want to do.”
Identification is a state where we become unconsciously enslaved to our emotions, possessions, and habits, mistaking this for freedom.
True freedom is not the ability to do whatever we want. It is the ability to free oneself from unconscious, automatic reactions, likes and dislikes and replace them with free attention and a recognition of a higher reality.
Responsibility can be uncomfortable. Bennett frequently noted that humans often subconsciously resist freedom because they would rather blame outside circumstances than be accountable for their own state of being.
Working with identification
1-Practice self-observation without judgement. Seeing our Identification impartially.
2-Sensing our physical presence to disrupt unconscious reactions.
Spot the disguise: identification is tricky and hides behind positive names like enthusiasm, passion, or spontaneity. Notice when your attention is blindly hijacked by these states.
We are after a mindful vitality. We don’t have to feel love or attachment to something to honor it.
