The Fourth Way is a remarkable path for seekers of personal transformation that is approachable and accessible to all. It is ideal for people who want to remain in the world while embarking on a path of accelerated Transformation. This path offers a set of practices and conditions for simultaneous work on our Intellectual, Physical, and Emotional “centers,” for a harmonious and complete personal transformation.
If we pay careful attention, we come to see that our ordinary day-to-day life is largely unconscious and automatic. We see that we often don’t notice what we do or why we do it. We begin to notice that we’re persistently displeased with the world, with other people, with our own lives.
It is possible, however, to wake up from the sleep of automatic action, from our habitual negativity, from our chronic dissatisfaction. Moreover, with a higher quality of attention, we can learn to transform ourselves by working with presence, mindfulness, and receptivity. We can learn how to access what we might call a “finer energy.” This finer energy can enable and sustain a more subtle way of being.
The Fourth Way was brought to the west by G. I. Gurdjieff in the early twentieth century. One of his foremost students was J. G. Bennett, with whom the founder of our groups worked personally. Our group’s founder – who continues to serve as teacher and guide – has led groups for more than forty years and has decades of experience in Mindfulness work, Buddhism, and Sufism.
Our groups have been working in New York and Baltimore for over 35 years. Currently, there are three groups in New York, each suited to different levels of experience. There is also an active group in Baltimore. Additionally, there are weekly classes in the Movements, a form of sacred dance practiced by many in this work.
Our meetings are in person at our Center in midtown Manhattan and over Zoom for people who live outside of the New York area. Let us know of your interest and if you would like to explore this work.
There is no financial charge for our group meetings.
